Create Transitions With Stature
“Going from an outdoor space inside, it can be rather jarring to enter a low ceiling,” architect Jeffrey Dungan says. “So we elevated the ceiling in the great room to give it that larger-than-life experience and emotion.”
Rely on Regional Resources
“I wanted to find a way to incorporate materials that were Western, such as the Texas limestone and the clay tile roof, which form a line of defense against the heat,” Dungan says.
Establish a Luminous Core
“An interior courtyard allows light to enter the home from multiple directions throughout the day and creates a protected outdoor area the house wraps around,” Dungan says.
