Zahn McClarnon is back in action as Joe Leaphorn for the AMC series.
An unseen ally offers an unsettling observation to Lt. Joe Leaphorn: “Country’s got the devil in it, Joe. Last few years, the monsters ain’t just in the shadows. They’re in broad damn daylight.”
Based on what we see in the newly released teaser trailer for Season 2 of Dark Winds, the absorbing AMC series based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman, this warning appears entirely justified. But that doesn’t mean Joe Leaphorn will ever back down as he serves and protects his Navajo Nation community near Monument Valley during the early 1970s.
According to Deadline, when Season 2 kicks off July 30 on AMC, we’ll see Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) reuniting with Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), his former deputy turned private investigator, when their separate cases bring them together in pursuit of the same suspect. They find themselves in the high desert of Navajo Country chasing a killer who’s turned his sights on them to protect a secret that rips open old wounds and challenges Leaphorn’s moral and professional code.
With the help of Sgt. Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) and Valencia County Sheriff Gordo Sena (A Martinez), Leaphorn and Chee must thwart their would-be assassin and restore balance not only to their own lives but to the reservation that depends on them.
Two new cast members — Nicholas Logan (The Inspection, Dopestick) and Jeri Ryan (a.k.a. Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Picard) — have been added to the Dark Winds cast for Season 2. Logan plays Colton Wolf, a twisted assassin with a secret that puts him on a collision course with Joe Leaphorn, while Ryan will appear as Rosemary Vines, a femme fatale whose physical frailties hide her naked ambition as she manipulates Jim Chee, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake.
As far as we’re concerned, July 30 can’t arrive fast enough.
