“The Harder They Fall” is scheduled to start shooting in March.
We’ve delayed saying anything about The Harder They Fall for a while because, frankly, the news sounded too good to be true: Netflix would be filming a period western starring Idris Elba, the incredibly charismatic and multi-talented British actor who last slapped leather as The Gunslinger in the movie version of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.
But since they’re already advertising for extras who’ll be needed when shooting begins in March on location in New Mexico, we figure it’s safe to say: Wow!
What’s it all about? According to Netflix: “When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that the man (Idris Elba) who killed his parents two decades ago is being released from prison, he reunites with his gang to track his enemy down and seek his revenge.” Why? Well, you know: A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do, and all that.
Watch this space for further details as production proceeds apace. But keep in mind: The Harder They Fall should not be confused with The Harder They Come, the classic 1972 Jamaican crime drama starring reggae music star Jimmy Cliff. (A movie, it should be noted, in which the lead character attends a screening of the Spaghetti Western Django.) Nor should it be confused with the song that Willie Nelson memorably covered in his 2005 reggae album Countryman.
