Ted's Montana Grill opens its first Montana location
With 15 ranches in seven states totaling some 2 million acres, media entrepreneur and environmentalist Ted Turner is the largest private landowner in North America.
He also owns approximately 50,000 bison, the largest private herd in the world. Some of those buffalo roam not far from Bozeman, Montana, home to a location of another Turner venture: Ted's Montana Grill.
The first Ted's Montana Grill opened in January 2002, in Columbus, Ohio, and the chain has grown to more than 50 restaurants in 18 states. Ironically, Ted's 57th restaurant — which recently opened in downtown Bozeman and is located in the historic Baxter Hotel — is the first one in Montana.
The restaurant's menu features a number of ways to enjoy buffalo, including bison ribs, bison chili, bison meatloaf, and several fine cuts of bison steak.
Of course there are also all of the other offerings one would expect to find at an upscale restaurant, including Ted's specialties: fresh cedar plank salmon, Mediterranean tuna steak, and "beer can" chicken. Everything is prepared fresh from scratch under the direction of executive chef Chris Raucci — there's no freezer or microwave in the kitchen, and the beef, chicken, and bison are all natural.
Turner's well-known commitment to the environment even extends to the menus, which are printed on recycled paper. Restaurants are nationwide; go online to find a location near you.
