Artist Spotlight: Julia Lucich's Party Animals
by ANN KATHRYN ORSINGER
Julia Lucich is not your conventional wildlife artist. Whether it is a blue buffalo, a turquoise cow, or an orange bear, Lucich's whimsical use of color transforms what would otherwise be an ordinary wildlife scene into a painting that connects the viewer with the joys of life.

"When painting animals, particularly wildlife in a natural setting, it began to feel that I was either repeating myself or the work of someone else," says Lucich. Then she realized what a difference color makes, and her Party Animal series was born. "The use of unexpected color transforms an image which is, in every other respect, 'authentic' into one which has an upbeat, exciting energy."
Lucich's original paintings, which were selected by USArt magazine as the Editor's Choice for wildlife, are also available in limited- and open-edition giclée prints that range in price from $26 to $800.
